Estero Island (Fort Myers Beach) is approximately seven miles long and a half mile wide with the Gulf of Mexico to the west and Matanzas Pass to the east.

The Fishing Pier is a major attraction at Fort Myers Beach Park at the north end of the Island. Pelicans, porpoises and seagulls frequent the area almost as much as people.

Beach businesses offer jet-skis, windsurfing and catamaran rentals as well as parasailing and water-skiing. In the evening and weekends, live music draws fun-loving crowds.

Near the center of the town, nature enthusiasts will discover Matanzas Pass Wilderness Preserve. The Preserve features more than forty acres of unspoiled live oak hammock and four thousand feet of mangrove shoreline overlooking Estero Bay.

Visitors to Carl E. Johnson County Park at the south end of the Island have the opportunity to ride an open-air tram along a rustic boardwalk over Oyster Bay and mangrove islets to a three mile stretch of beautiful, secluded beach. The fifteen minute ride ends at Lovers' Key, where one may swim, fish, shell and hike the nature trail.

fort myers beach Lovers' Key State Recreation Area is at the south end of Fort Myers Beach. This currently underdeveloped park consists of three barrier bridges. There are two access gates, but no available facilities, so personal needs must be self-provided. Hiking, fishing and shelling are available.

Golf and tennis enthusiasts can work on their games while enjoying Fort Myers Beach. There are more than fifteen golf courses within easy driving reach, ranging from short, sporty Par-Threes to 18 Hole Championship facilities.

Archaeology and history buffs will want to visit Mound Key located at the southern tip of Fort Myers Beach. This barrier island was formed by Calusa Indians at least 1,000 years ago.
